Role Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Director of In Vivo Pharmacology and Clinical Virology, the Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacology will work in close collaboration with senior research staff and peers, in the scientific advancement of antiviral and immunotherapy drug development programs. In this laboratory based position, the Scientist will primarily conduct hands-on research designed to characterize the pharmacological profiles of drug candidates in the whole-body context.   

Responsibilities will include:

  • Successfully deliver on goals and objectives of Research division
  • Design, execution and performance of laboratory experiments including procurement and preparation of materials, in support of primary compound screening, lead optimization programs, mechanism of action studies, and drug combination studies
  • Assess effects of novel small molecule, biologic and/or nucleic acid drug treatments on viral and/or host markers in animal models of HBV disease and other relevant models
  • Contribute to the characterization of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drug candidates
  • Documenting procedures and results in laboratory notebooks and digital lab management systems, in accordance with appropriate SOPs
  • Assist in the management of external collaborating parties and/or contract research laboratories
  • Conduct detailed data analyses and generate comprehensive reports
  • Working largely independently but under the direction of senior research staff, provide input for improvement and optimization of experimental protocols and interpretation of results
  • Training and mentoring of new staff and interns
  • Other responsibilities as assigned



  • PhD in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology or other relevant laboratory-based life science, and 2 years in hands-on biological laboratory research positions; MS degree with minimum 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to independently execute biological experiments including nucleic acid isolations, quantitative PCR, next generation sequencing, mammalian cell culture, northern/southern/western blot, ELISA, luminex and reporter assay systems.
  • Expert knowledge of translational PK/PD highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of virus\host interactions preferred. 
  • Learns quickly and is able to understand and implement new methods.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Strong understanding of scientific theory behind research projects.
  • Strong command of the literature.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
